Overview
This injection targets a painful nerve in your cervical spine. It helps your doctor find which nerve is pressed on by a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, or some other problem. Patients with chronic pain in the neck, shoulders, or arms may be good candidates for this procedure.
Is it right for me?
If you are experiencing chronic neck, shoulder, or arm pain caused by conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and radiculopathy.
What is the procedure like?
During the procedure, patients are injected with a local anesthetic. Once numb, the site is injected with a contrast dye in order to allow the provider to guide a small needle into the neural foramen space containing nerves traveling through the neck. Medication is injected into this space, blocking pain signals from the affected nerves.
What happens after the procedure?
Patients may return home immediately after the procedure and are advised to limit strenuous activity for the rest of the day.
